Oscar nominations were announced today. Here's the list:
- 12 Years a Slave
- American Hustle
- Captain Phillips
- Dallas Buyers Club
- The Wolf of Wall Street
So far I've seen Gravity and The Wolf of Wall Street. I'm going to try to see Her this weekend. Ideally I won't end up in a situation like last year where @gmeli456 and I spent an entire weekend flying through movies and never really leaving the couch. We JUST made it in time, but it was movie overload!
Just watched Her. Interesting from a technological perspective. Fascinating/disturbing from a psychological/sociological perspective. Still don't know if I liked it or not.
✓ American Hustle
✓ Dallas Buyers Club
I liked Dallas Buyers Club more than American Hustle, which dragged on a bit for me. So far of the ones I've seen, I think Gravity or Wolf of Wall Street are my favorites.
Have 8+ hours on a bus coming up this weekend where hopefully I'll be able to knock off the last few!
✓ Captain Phillips
Intense. I've saved the 3 I least want to watch until last, which was perhaps a bad strategy on my part. Good thing I have all day tomorrow still.
I actually didn't know what the movie was going to be about. I ended up being pleasantly surprised! Two to go!
✓ 12 Years a Slave
DONE! and with time to spare. I can't say I really have a favorite or a prediction of which will win. They're all pretty different. I would say Nebraska probably might get some directing/script/etc awards, but best picture will probably go to something more like 12 years a slave or wolf of wall st. maybe even dallas buyers club (I think matthew mcconaughey might be my favorite for best actor).
We'll see! So nice not to have to rush watching them this year!
